This Week in Tampa Bay: America's 250th Birthday Bash (June 30–July 6)
America turns 250 this week. That's not a typo. The Semiquincentennial — the once-in-two-and-a-half-centuries milestone — lands on Saturday, July 4, 2026, and Tampa Bay is throwing one of the biggest Independence Day weekends the region has ever seen. Every city has something going. Here's where to be.

Liberty by the Bay — Tampa's Big Show
Saturday, July 4 | 4:00 PM – 9:30 PM | Julian B. Lane Riverfront Park | FreeThe city of Tampa is swinging for the fences. Liberty by the Bay is billed as one of the largest Fourth of July events in Tampa Bay history — and the headliner makes it hard to argue: a 250-drone light show honoring America's 250th birthday, followed immediately by a fireworks finale over the Hillsborough River.
The afternoon builds up to it all: live band performances, a DJ, food trucks, a beer garden, and a Kids Zone with family activities. The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is hosting a Patriotic Pet Show. The Glazer Children's Museum runs a Kids Liberty Procession. There's even a water ski show on the river before dark.
Drone display kicks off at 9:00 PM. Fireworks follow.
It's free, it's massive, and it's probably going to be crowded. Plan to arrive early. Text TAMPA250 to 888-777 for event updates.

The Fourth at the St. Pete Pier
Saturday, July 4 | 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM | St. Pete Pier | FreeThe Pier celebrates America 250 with a full afternoon of live entertainment on the waterfront. The setup — water on three sides, downtown St. Pete skyline behind you — makes it one of the best backdrops in the Bay for a fireworks show. Expect live music, food vendors, and a crowd that knows how to have a good time. Arrive early if you want a spot with a real view.

Clearwater Celebrates America (and 250)
Friday, July 3 – Saturday, July 4 | 5:00 PM – 11:00 PM | Coachman Park, Clearwater | FreeClearwater doesn't do one day when it can do two. The city is running a full two-day event at Coachman Park for the holiday weekend — and they're leaning hard into the America's 250th angle with special programming across both days.
Friday the 3rd is the kickoff, running 5 PM to 11 PM. Saturday the 4th picks back up through the evening. Coachman Park sits right on the waterfront in downtown Clearwater, which means the fireworks over the water are genuinely worth the drive.

Red, White & Blue on the Bay — Madeira Beach
Saturday, July 4 | 5:00 PM – 9:00 PM | ROC Park, 200 Rex Place, Madeira Beach | FreeMadeira Beach keeps it beachy and local. ROC Park right on the water, fireworks over the bay, and the kind of relaxed beach-town energy that's easier to park at than anything in downtown Tampa or St. Pete. If you want the waterfront view without the massive crowd, this is your move.

Saturday, July 4 | 4:00 PM – 10:00 PM | MOSI, Tampa | $15+Not every family wants to battle a crowd of 30,000 people for a patch of grass. Saturday, July 4 | 6:00 PM | Duke Energy Center for the Arts – Mahaffey Theater, St. PeteIf you want something a little different this year, the St. Pete Opera's annual Pops Spectacular is a genuinely great time. Planning Notes for the Week
A few things worth knowing before you head out:
- Traffic is going to be ugly on July 4th. If you're going to Tampa, the free TECO Line Streetcar runs from Ybor City and is a solid option. Downtown Tampa garages fill up fast.
- July 4th falls on a Saturday this year, which means the holiday weekend runs Thursday through Sunday. Restaurants and bars will be packed all four days.
- Clearwater Beach and Madeira Beach will have limited street parking by mid-afternoon on July 4. Get there early or park further out and walk.
It's a once-every-250-years kind of weekend. Whatever you choose, enjoy it.
