This Week in Tampa Bay: Dave Matthews, St. Pete Pride Kickoff, and Kid Rock's Freedom Tour (May 26 – June 1)

The week after Memorial Day usually feels like a collective exhale — but Tampa Bay isn't taking a breath. From a tent-pole concert Monday night to one of the biggest outdoor shows of the summer on Saturday, the May 26–June 1 stretch is stacked. Here's what's worth putting on your calendar.

Dave Matthews Band — Tuesday, May 26

Memorial Day's not quite over before MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre kicks into gear. Dave Matthews Band hits the outdoor stage Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. for what promises to be a three-hour marathon of rotating setlists, extended jams, and the kind of live show you don't get anywhere else.

If you haven't seen DMB at MIDFLORIDA, the venue is perfect for it — open air, good sightlines, and plenty of space to spread out on the lawn. Tickets are still available but won't last the week.

The Notebook — Tuesday & Wednesday, May 26–27

The Tony Award-winning musical adaptation of the Nicholas Sparks novel is touring nationally, and it stops at the Straz Center's Carol Morsani Hall for two nights. If you've got someone who'd rather spend the week in tears than in a lawn chair, this is the move.

Both shows start at 7:30 p.m. This is a sit-down, full-production touring show — book ahead.

Where: David A. Straz Center for the Performing Arts, 1010 N MacInnes Pl, Tampa

Happy Together Tour — Friday, May 29

Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater gets a nostalgia bomb Friday night when the Happy Together Tour rolls through. The touring package brings together multiple acts from the '60s and '70s — the kind of show where the crowd knows every word to every song and doesn't need prompting.

Show starts at 7 p.m. Ruth Eckerd is a great room — good sound, intimate enough that even mid-range seats feel close.

St. Pete Pride Kickoff Weekend — Friday, May 29 – Sunday, May 31

June is Pride Month, and St. Pete doesn't wait for the calendar to flip. The official Pride kickoff weekend runs Friday through Sunday in the Grand Central District and surrounding venues.

Friday night brings music and events in Grand Central. Saturday stacks a pickleball tournament during the day into a beach party and sunset celebration by evening. Sunday wraps with drag brunch performances. This is a three-day lead-in to what will eventually be one of the largest Pride events in Florida — the full festival and parade runs June 26–28 and draws hundreds of thousands of attendees.

The kickoff weekend is lower-key by comparison, which makes it a good way to experience the community energy without navigating a 300,000-person crowd. Multiple venues, spread across the neighborhood — check St. Pete Pride's event page for location-specific details.

Kid Rock — Freedom 250 Tour — Saturday, May 30

One of the bigger outdoor shows of the Tampa summer: Kid Rock brings the Freedom 250 Tour to MIDFLORIDA Amphitheatre on Saturday at 6:30 p.m. Whether you're a long-time fan or just looking for a reason to be outside with a cold drink on a Saturday night, this one delivers.

MIDFLORIDA's lawn setup works for this kind of show. Get there early — parking and traffic around the amphitheatre can pile up fast on concert nights.

Where: MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre, 4802 US-301 N, Tampa

Underground Book Fair — Saturday, May 30

On the quieter end of the spectrum: the Underground Book Fair comes to the historic Jack Kerouac House in St. Pete from noon to 4 p.m. Local booksellers, authors, and musicians gather at a venue that's directly tied to American literary history. Readings, conversation, handmade goods.

If you need a counterprogram to the concert chaos on the other side of the Bay, this is it.

That's a week worth showing up for. Concerts on both ends, a full Pride kickoff in the middle, and a Saturday that offers literally nothing in common between its options.
