This Week in Tampa Bay: Country Thunder, Bacon, and German Beer (May 5–11)
The first full week of May in Tampa Bay doesn't mess around. You've got a massive beach country festival, a free bacon fest, authentic German Maifest, a one-of-a-kind film premiere, and a car museum event for the gearheads. Here's your guide to May 5–11.

Country Thunder Tampa — St. Pete Beach (May 8–10)
The biggest event of the week is Country Thunder, and it's landing right on St. Pete Beach for the third year running.
This multi-day outdoor country music festival brings national touring acts, camping, and the kind of laid-back beach energy that's hard to beat in May. Think cold drinks, good boots optional, and the Gulf as your backdrop.
Friday through Sunday. If you've never been, this is the year to go — the lineup gets bigger every year, and the venue is genuinely stunning.

Tampa Bay Bacon Festival — Derby Lane, St. Pete (May 9–10)
You can't talk about this week without talking about the Bacon Festival. It's exactly what it sounds like.
Two days at Derby Lane (10490 Gandy Blvd. N., St. Pete) — local vendors cooking up bacon-inspired dishes, craft beer, infused cocktails, a bacon-eating contest, and live entertainment. Saturday runs 12–8pm, Sunday 12–6pm.
The deal: free before 2pm if you RSVP online. After 2pm it's $6.45. Either way, a bargain for what you get.
This is a great pick if Country Thunder isn't your scene — very chill, family-friendly, and the food is worth it.

Maifest in the Biergarten — German American Society, Pinellas Park (May 9)
If you didn't know there's a German American Society in Pinellas Park, now you do — and their Maifest is one of the most authentic cultural events in the county.
Saturday, May 9 at 8098 66th St. N., noon to 7pm. You'll get Enzianer Schuhplattler dancers braiding ribbons around the Maibaum, live German folk music, bratwurst, pretzels, and Maibock on tap. Tickets are $8.
It's small, it's genuine, and it's the kind of thing you stumble onto once and start going back every year.

The Clyde Best Story — Film Premiere at The Palladium, St. Pete (May 7–9)
This one's for the soccer fans and the history buffs.
"Transforming the Beautiful Game: The Clyde Best Story" premieres at The Palladium (253 Fifth Ave. N., St. Pete) with showings Thursday through Saturday at 7:30pm. Clyde Best was the first Black football superstar of the modern TV era in England — and Tampa Bay fans may recognize him as part of the legendary 1975 Tampa Bay Rowdies NASL Championship team.
Red carpet, post-show panel, and a meet-and-greet with Clyde Best himself. Tickets run $35–$85 for the VIP experience. This is a rare chance to see a genuinely historic documentary before it goes wide.

Hoods Up Week — Tampa Bay Automobile Museum, Pinellas Park (through May 11)
Running all week through Sunday, Hoods Up is one of the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum's most popular recurring events. Engines are open on cars from across the century — 2-cylinders to 12-cylinders, air-cooled, rotary, sleeve-valve, electric, hydrogen-powered. One car has two engines: one front, one rear.
It's included with regular museum admission at 3301 Gateway Centre, Pinellas Park. If you've got a kid who's into cars — or you just are — this is worth the trip.

Lightning Watch
If the Bolts are still alive in the NHL playoffs (and here's hoping), keep an eye on the schedule for potential home games at Amalie Arena this week. Playoff hockey in Tampa is an experience in itself — especially if the series is close.
Check the official schedule at nhl.com/lightning for updated game times.
