What's Happening in Tampa Bay: August 19-25, 2026

August in Tampa Bay doesn't slow down. This week has something for almost every crowd, from laid-back acoustic sets to a Bucs preseason opener and a blues legend at Ruth Eckerd Hall.

Here's what's on the calendar.

Tuesday, August 19

Jack Johnson: SURFILMUSIC Tour

7:30 PM at MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre

If you need an excuse to finally decompress after summer, this is it. Jack Johnson's been doing this for 25 years and the shows never feel like a nostalgia act. Mellow, acoustic, and genuinely good. Bring a blanket and park tickets ahead of time.

Squeeze with Adam Ant

6:00 PM at The BayCare Sound in St. Pete

For anyone who grew up on early-80s British new wave, this lineup is almost absurd in the best way. Squeeze ("Tempted," "Black Coffee in Bed") sharing a bill with Adam Ant. St. Pete's waterfront venue makes it easy to grab dinner before or after.

Thursday, August 21

Rob Zombie and Marilyn Manson with The Hu and Orgy

6:15 PM at MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre

A lot of arena rock bills feel safe. This one doesn't. The Hu is the Mongolian throat-metal band that exploded on YouTube a few years back, and they're opening. Full evening of rock for anyone who likes it loud.

Friday, August 22

Tampa Bay Buccaneers vs. Kansas City Chiefs

7:30 PM at Raymond James Stadium

Preseason game one. The Bucs host the Chiefs in what counts as the unofficial start of football season around here. It's still preseason, which means the starters are on a short leash, but the crowd energy is real and tickets are significantly cheaper than the regular season. Worth going if you haven't been to a game in a while.

PFL Tampa presented by Visit St. Pete-Clearwater

6:00 PM at Benchmark International Arena

Professional Fighting League is in town the same night. MMA with title implications on the line. The Benchmark arena downtown is easy to get to and the sight lines are good.

Saturday, August 23

Buddy Guy

7:30 PM at Ruth Eckerd Hall in Clearwater

Buddy Guy is 90 years old and still performing. That sentence should be all the convincing you need. He's a direct link to Chicago blues, mentored by Muddy Waters and Howlin' Wolf, and a significant influence on Jimi Hendrix, Eric Clapton, and Stevie Ray Vaughan. This is the kind of show that won't come around again.

Summer Sing-Along: Wicked at Sparkman Wharf

Outdoor screening with the Wicked cast recording. Family-friendly, free popcorn, waterfront setting. Good option if you've got kids and want to be outside without the heat of a daytime event.

Sunday, August 24

Goo Goo Dolls

7:30 PM at MIDFLORIDA Credit Union Amphitheatre

Neon Trees opens. If "Iris" is burned into your memory from the 90s, you'll know every word by the second chorus. A solid Sunday night out.

Tampa Bay has a lot going on for a mid-August week. Buddy Guy on Saturday is the one I'd prioritize if you only pick one. That said, the Bucs game Friday makes for a good first-football-fix of the year.
