This Week in Tampa Bay: Mumford & Sons, American Idiot, CatVideoFest, and More (August 5-11)

August is doing its thing in Tampa Bay. The heat isn't going anywhere, but neither is the lineup this week. Whether you want a big stadium show, a free Thursday night at the park, Broadway-caliber theater, or a 90-minute room full of strangers watching cat videos, there's something on this list for you.

Mumford & Sons with Medium Build

Thursday, August 7 | Amalie Arena

The biggest ticket this week. Mumford & Sons is back out on the road with a full arena show, and Tampa is on the route. Medium Build opens, which is its own reason to show up early. Tickets are still available from $43, with over a thousand seats left as of this writing. Don't sleep on it.

American Idiot

Wednesday-Saturday (Aug 6-9) | Jaeb Theater, The Straz Center

The two-time Tony Award-winning rock opera built around Green Day's album is running at the Straz through this weekend. If you've seen it before, you know it holds up. If you haven't, this is the kind of show that surprises people who assume it's just a concert dressed up as theater. Tickets start around $93.

CatVideoFest 2026

Thursday, August 7 and beyond | Tampa Theatre

This sounds like a joke, but it's a real event that fills theaters every year. CatVideoFest is a curated collection of the best internet cat videos, shown on the big screen at the historic Tampa Theatre, with proceeds going to the Humane Society of Tampa Bay. It runs through the 13th. Bring people who need a low-stakes, genuinely fun night out.

Rock the Park

Thursday, August 6 | Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park

This is free, it's been running for over 15 years, and it happens every first Thursday of the month downtown. Rock the Park puts live music at Curtis Hixon Park with the kind of vibe that's easy to talk anyone into. Good option if Thursday plans fall through at the last minute, or if you just want to be outside with no cover charge.

Walker & Royce

Friday-Saturday, August 8-9 | The Ritz Ybor

Electronic music weekend at one of Tampa's best small venues. Walker & Royce have been a staple in underground house and techno circles for years, and the Ritz is the right room for this kind of show. If that's your scene, it's worth checking out.

AquaGlow at Adventure Island

Through August 8

Adventure Island has been running this after-hours neon water park experience through the end of the week. Glowing lights, music, the works. Included with park admission. Good call for a mid-week evening if you've got kids or just want something different.

There's a lot happening this week, and honestly August in Tampa Bay has always been underrated on the events front. The summer crowds thin out, the locals come back out, and you can usually still get a decent ticket to something worth going to.
